About

It’s easy for me to believe in the power of the creative arts because it has entertained, enlightened, and inspired me all my life.

I’ve written (in some cases created) a number of juvenile mysteries, educational documentaries, and several stage plays.

Still filled with ideas galore, I penned three movie novelizations for Disney; biographies for Steck-Vaughn, stories for DC Comics, Archie Comics, and Graphic Classics ; and my own original creations.

Wanting to share that creative rush with others, I developed and conducted creative writing workshops (prose, comics, journalism, and playwriting); traveled globally as a guest speaker and teaching artist; and consulted on a number of arts programs, curricula for children, and professional development workshops for educators.

In 2007 I became the founder for the Kids Comic Con, as well as the Color of Comics Art Exhibition.

And somewhere in the middle of everything else, I was the Artistic Director of a non-profit children’s theater company (for 4 years), and served on the board of the New York State Alliance for Arts and Education for five years. Currently I am a consultant for the Christopher Barron Live Life Foundation and the Museum of Comic & Cartoon Art (MoCCA).

It is rumored that on rare occasions … I sleep.

Best,
Alex Simmons
